Both the Cayman and Boxster 718 GTS 4.0 variants, as well as the range-topping 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder models are now available with an automatic transmission. With the Porsche dual-clutch transmission, there are absolutely no interruptions in acceleration while changing gears. What this ultimately does is greatly increase the comfort of the gear shifts along with improving the acceleration values.
The 718 Spyder as well as the 718 Cayman GT4 are now capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. They also reach 200 km/h in 13.4 seconds. Additionally, the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, both with 294 kW, have also improved in their standard sprint by half a second, going from 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds, and reaching the 200 km/h mark in just 13.7 seconds. This is 0.4 seconds faster than when compared to the manual transmission.
The standard Sport Chrono package in the 718 GTS 4.0 models adapts the gear shift characteristics of the Porsche Dual-Clutch transmission according to the following different driving models: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual. Within Sport mode, the vehicle operates with faster gear changes, supports optimal acceleration with later shift points, and shifts down earlier with automatic throttle blips. Taking it one step further, the even more athletic Sport Plus mode is tailored for the absolute maximum performance by fully exploiting the rpm reserves of the six-cylinder boxer engine. Activating an automatic race start, Launch Control is integrated within Sport Plus.
The Porsche 718 family is going to start the 2021 model year with several new features. Replacing the Alcantara fabric will be the high-quality Race-Tex material. This material is based on the covers that are used for racing seats. It offers both greater support and a high breathable structure.
