Porsche is taking the experience of driving a luxury car to the next level with a new and never-before seen innovation: thermally and noise-insulated glass. Say goodbye to the constant noise of driving on the highway or through tunnels in which concrete walls reflect sounds into your car’s interior. You can also say goodbye to having to raise the volume on your music or podcast, as well as raising your voice simply to be heard when on a hands-free call or even when chatting with someone sitting in the backseat.

Unlike the conventional glass found on the sides and rears of most cars, Porsche’s new development in glass features five layers to provide ultimate protection from what is outside. The outer- and innermost layers are made of glass, while the inner three layers consist of film. The inner three layers are made of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) film that has special properties that make this an amazing product for protecting from outside noise. It absorbs nearly all of the oscillation of the surrounding layers of glass, which reduces outside noise by an impressive amount.

What is even more special about this noise-insulated glass is that it will protect from all unwanted noises without compromising one’s safety. Drivers and passengers will still be able to hear police, fire engine, and ambulance sirens at the same level. This is because these sounds fall within frequencies between 360 and 630 hertz almost all over the world, and are still able to travel through this glass.

Porsche will be installing its renowned glass throughout its vehicles, including the tiny triangular panes and rear window. Noise-insulation is not the only benefit of this glass, however. It is also more resistant to break-ins, thanks to the extra layer of film. The thermally and noise-insulated glass can even be paired with the popular privacy glass, or even in combination with the thermally insulated glass, which has the exact same appearance as the normal glass.

Casual conversation, exceptional music, and the virtuoso sound of your beloved engine can now be heard and experienced better than ever, thanks to the optimized thermally and noise-insulated glass by Porsche.
