The Porsche Club of America is one of the largest Porsche enthusiast groups in the world. Recognizing the prominence of this organization, Porsche recently decided to honor them with an exclusive and unique model: the 911 Classic Club. To build this model, they modified a classic 1998 911 Carter’s (Type 996).

The car has been designed with enthusiasts in mind, and is chock full of special features that pay homage to Porsche’s sporting heritage. Unique aspects of the car include Sport Grey Metallic paintwork, a double-dome roof, Fuchs Rims, and a rear spoiler inspired by the ducktail design of the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

There are several design features that are clearly inspired by the Porsche Club of America, and geared specifically towards Porsche lovers. For starters, there are numerous external and interior design details that are in the famed "Club Blue" color. Additionally, the center sections of the seats along with the door panel trim are set in an intricate Peoria Houndstooth pattern in the leather material.

Porsche was intentional in choosing which generation of 911 to upgrade and modify for this unique model. As some executives and designers at the firm felt, the 996 generation has been historically overshadowed by other 911 models, despite its excellent platform and sleek designs. Porsche aims to put a spotlight on this car with the new PCA edition, and elevate it to a true collector’s item for the US market. The 996 was a pioneering model, introducing many changes to the 911 family. For starters, the engine changed from air-cooled to water-cooled, preparing for increasingly stringent emissions standards. Additionally, a sleeker new design (contrasting with the more bulbous design of old 911s) was polarizing, and offered a new direction for Porsche’s design team.

By preserving and redesigning old models, Porsche is elevating its history, and allowing collectors to get a second chance at enjoying historic models. The brand has an exciting future, both in its new ventures, and in its process of elevating old models.
