It’s been 50 years since the development of the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 began. After almost 500 examples were initially built to approve the car for Group 4 racing regulations, the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was an instant hit during its debut at the 1972 Salon de l’Automobile. Not long after the race, all 500 vehicles were sold.

As the crowning glory of the Porsche range, the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was the first 911 to be christened “Carrera” – a reference to Porsche’s success at the 1954 Carrera Panamericana road race. The “RS” in the name signals this car was made for facing, while the “2.7” references the engine displacement. The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was designed with a blend of style and performance with speed being a distinctive feature. The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is the fastest German production car with a top speed of 245 km/h and features a unique rear spoiler commonly referred to as the “ducktail.”

The legacy of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 inspired Puma to pay homage with the release of an iconic footwear collection featuring their own historic Puma Suede sneakers that originally debuted with only 307 pairs as a tribute to track and field Olympian Tommie Smith’s competition number.

This time debuting with 500 pairs per colorway, the classic Puma Suede shoe joins the Puma x Porsche line. Each shoe bears the RS 2.7 typeface and is available in ten different colors that match what customers of the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 could choose from when the vehicle first hit the market. Of the ten colorways, the Orange/Black and Grand Prix White/Black are only available in The Netherlands and Japan.

Owners of the all-new Puma x Porsche Suede RS 2.7 Limited Edition sneakers will receive free entry into the Porsche Museum until the end of 2022 to get a first-hand experience of Porsche’s legendary heritage.
