The Taycan, Porsche’s most digitally advanced and first fully electric car, is truly worth beholding. With a unique combination of exemplary Porsche performance, all-around everyday practicality and connectivity, it was hailed as the most important driver of innovation on the global automotive market at the World Car of the Year Awards 2020, and took top honors in the World Luxury Car and World Performance Car categories.
In celebration of this astounding sportscar, Porsche Australia has commissioned a bespoke Australian artwork designed by contemporary artist Nigel Sense, and transformed it into a vehicle livery for the Taycan. Porsche Cars Australia Managing Director and CEO Daniel Schmollinger proudly shared that the result is a reflection of the natural and modern Australia, a link between heritage and the future.
With its abstract and lively design, the Taycan art car is effortlessly captivating, made to push the boundaries of traditional artwork on cars.
Sense said his work is about “maps and painted lines that lead to the unknown.” It also showcases symbols and imagery, depicting “the emotional feeling of movement going from one place to another, that excitement to see what’s over the horizon. The beauty of living a life well lived.”
Ultimately, the art car was converted into stunning digital assets or Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Three exclusive digital artworks were created in the form of multimedia photographs.
An integral part of this transformation is attributed to photographer Derek Swalwell. The locations of the photographs depict the Taycan’s environmentally conscious architecture. The NFTs created were minted in a carbon neutral way by offsetting them through the Porsche Impact program.
To further amaze you, sounds that connect to the colors and character of the Taycan accompany the NFTs as an extension. Gene Shill, a very talented composer known to create music from car engine sounds, composed an original piece of music from a single Taycan power unit sound.
Since December 7, 2021 (7:00 PM AEDST), the NFTs have been up for auction via SuperRare.com, an online art marketplace that uses Ethereum technology in partnership with the German NFT collectibles start-up Fanzone.io. Proceeds will be given to the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art.
As a part of Porsche’s celebration of 70 Years in Australia, this collaboration is the first digital artwork project conducted by the company that is based on the blockchain technology Ethereum. According to Schmollinger, it is one of the outstanding and once-in-a-lifetime experiences conducted by the company over the past seven decades.
