Backseat entertainment is about to be revolutionized. Porsche and entertainment-technology startup holoride are piloting something stupendously thrilling at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles—an out of this world fully-immersive location-based virtual reality high-speed drive.
Passengers will enjoy a fully-immersive journey through outer space as they fly a spaceship, with visuals and sound effects adapting to the movement of the car. This is achieved by linking real-time physical feedback inside a moving vehicle to content in a VR headset.
Holoride utilizes driving data from a Porsche Cayenne such as accelerating, steering, and braking to adapt, make sure the experience matches the car’s every movement, and reduce motion sickness. It’s a unique approach to match what riders see, and what they feel with almost no latency.
This new installation is a great teaser on Porsche’s mission to deliver emotional, dynamic, and incomparable customer experiences, and is intended to be continued in the future.
Featuring the Cosmic Chase Game
The VR experience features Cosmic Chase, an original game developed together with Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based studio Schell Games.
Riders will find themselves aboard a spaceship.Their journey revolves around fighting off the alien Cymex, alongside a group of recruits that form the Earth Alliance.
Nils Wollny, the CEO and co-founder of holoride said that they are excited to offer this new type of attraction to automotive enthusiasts, and entertainment-savvy audiences in the greater LA area. It is a perfect example of transforming automotive experience centers into exciting destinations that families and friends can go to, enjoy, and where no one is left out. With the foregoing coronavirus pandemic, partners are providing a safe and clean experience through measures such as sanitizing the headsets for riders.
This first commercial installment is a stepping stone to making holoride’s technology accessible for a broader audience.
Porsche and holoride’s partnership began in 2019 as part of the Startup Autobahn, Europe’s biggest innovation platform. Their pilot program at the Porsche Experience Center in LA aims to evaluate technical stability, and customer demand, and serve as a run-up to potentially rolling it out to other Porsche Experience Centers worldwide.
