It all began with Ferry Porsche’s dream of a sports car in 1948. Carrying that big dream, he and his team produced the Porsche 356 ‘No. 1’ Roadster—the car that began it all—the onset of the legendary Porsche brand.

Seventy years later, Porsche is celebrating its anniversary with a series of events and exhibitions this year that highlight the passion, and the pioneering spirit that define the brand. “We are celebrating together with people who are inspired by dreams,” Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.

The celebration kicked off with the 'Driven by Dreams' exhibition at the DRIVE Volkswagen Group Forum in Berlin, running until September 10th, 2023. Visitors can immerse themselves in Porsche’s visions and ventures, and make a record of their own dreams by using a digital module.

Meet the 357: A Homage to the 356

A big part of the festivities is the German automaker’s unveiling of a new concept car in Berlin—the Porsche Vision 357. This concept is an attempt to combine the past, present, and future coherently, reflecting the interplay between tradition and innovation. The 357 pays tribute to Ferry Porsche's dream of a sports car and the Porsche 356, visualizing what it would look like today.

The Style Porsche team designed the Porsche Vision 357 with a monolithic style, striking light signature, and outstanding sports car performance built on the platform of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. Design has always been a crucial element of the Porsche brand, and the visionary studies and concept cars form the foundation for its innovative design.

Worldwide Roadshows and Exhibitions

From February 23 to 26, visitors were able to witness a grand trade fair for classic car culture just outside Stuttgart with Porsche’s Retro Classics. If you missed this, there are more exciting activities lined up for you.

The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen will host an extensive special exhibition starting on June 9. Porsche Germany will also be holding the 'Festival of Dreams' at the Hockenheimring which will showcase the brand's history, present, and future on June 10 and 11. Featuring various activities including vehicle exhibitions, talks, live performances, themed experiences, and activities for kids, this festival is something you shouldn't miss! Overnight options will also be available, and there will be motorsport events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, and ADAC GT Masters.

'75 Years of Porsche Sports Cars' will be also commemorated at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, the highest elevated car exhibition in the world on the Grossglockner, and the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, and through a 'Heritage Truck' designed for the anniversary year that will transport exhibition materials from 'Driven by Dreams' to over 60 locations in Europe and the US. The final event of these global activities is the 'Rennsport Reunion' car festival that will take place in California from September 28 to October 1.

Other Significant Celebrations

In addition to celebrating the 75th anniversary of Porsche Sports Cars, there are two other significant anniversaries: 60 years of the 911 and 100 years of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 911, which was unveiled at the International Motor Show in September 1963, has captivated the hearts of sports car enthusiasts worldwide with its iconic design and unparalleled driving experience. The organizers of the famous endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will also celebrate their centenary on June 10th and 11th on the Sarthe track.

All sports car makers aspire for triumph at the Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans, and Porsche shares a unique bond with the French endurance classic. Porsche is the most victorious brand at Le Mans, and the only participant to have continuously competed in the 24-hour race since 1951. In this span, Porsche has amassed 110 class wins and 19 overall victories.

2023 is a big year of milestones for Porsche. But on top of all the victories and historic breakthroughs, the automaker highlights the importance of dreams—the starting point of all things great and unimaginable.
