With Porsche’s exclusive Factory Re-Commission offer, the marquee has brought personalization to a new level. Carrying out the vision of the car owner, sports car manufacturer experts conduct comprehensive technical revisions and retrofitting on vehicles already in their possession—bringing a customer’s special wishes to life. The end product is a car fully representing its owner.

Victor Gomez’s Carrera GT Retrofitted with a Legendary Design

A true Porsche enthusiast, Viktor Gomez had his 20-year-old Carrera GT restructured under the Sonderwunsch program.

His design of choice is the legendary Salzburg livery—an homage to the iconic colors of the 1970 Le Mans–winning Porsche 917. Featuring a distinctive eye-catching red and white 917 short-tail with the starting number 23, motorsport fans recognize this striking look as the Salzburg Design. The year 1970 marked a historic milestone as Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood claimed Porsche’s first overall win at Le Mans in a winning 917.

The Painstaking Process

From sketches to renderings, Gomez’s dream 917 inspiration was built.

To perfect the flow and precision of the design lines, the designer and his team meticulously taped out the Carrera GT before creating the final paint templates. The hand-painted Guards Red and white finish—complete with the iconic number 23—is safeguarded beneath a transparent protective foil, as Victor Gómez intends to drive the car on the roads of his native Puerto Rico.

Gomez’s Carrera GT was completely disassembled, and its technical components, including the V10 engine, were overhauled from the ground up. Carbon parts were also recoated. In the process, Porsche experts encountered a challenge: the geometry, gaps, and dimensions of the Carrera GT differ from those of the 917. Nonetheless, they still delivered the vision by having the design adapted to the GT’s shape.

The New Striking Exterior

Matte black carbon elements complete the bespoke exterior, providing a bold contrast to the red and white paintwork. They feature on the roof halves, A- and B-pillars, mirror caps, front air duct, and rear diffuser. The engine-cover grilles are finished in matte-black anodized metal, while the original five-spoke alloy wheels are painted black and accented with a colored Porsche crest.

The Interior Reimagined

Inside, Gomez’s personal touch is unmistakable. At his request, Porsche’s upholstery department trimmed numerous surfaces in Guards Red Alcantara, including portions of the dashboard and door panels, the steering-wheel rim, and the center console. Even the front luggage compartment trim and the matching luggage set are wrapped in this soft, suede-like material in striking Guards Red.

Matching the exterior, matte carbon fiber is used throughout the interior as a striking visual counterpoint. It appears on the seat shells, the dashboard air-vent surrounds, and the instrument binnacle. For the seat center panels, side bolsters, and headrests, Porsche’s interior specialists selected black FIA-certified textile from the 918 Spyder—a flame-retardant fabric developed for motorsport use. Fittingly, two seats are featured in the original 917 design as well. It is a requirement for endurance racing cars of its era.

The Sonderwunsch experts' incredible passion and attention to detail made an impression on Gomez. He shared that he now owns a Carrera GT in brand-new condition, with zero kilometers on the odometer—inside and out exactly as he had envisioned.
