Porsche Design, Porsche’s non-car design studio, celebrates its 50th anniversary of building beautiful, motosport-inspired products. As possibly the world’s most iconic sports car, the Porsche 911 has under its belt decades of giving drivers a thrilling yet refined experience. Even outside of the car enthusiast community, the 911 is instantly recognizable with its rear engine layout, round headlights, and sleek side profile. For Porsche Design’s 50th anniversary, Porsche has made a unique 911 model featuring unique touches that celebrate iconic Design products, melding these design cues with the already beautiful 911.
To start, the outside of the car is available in black or Jet Black Metallic, with platinum accents. This is a reference to Porsche Design’s first product - the Chronograph 1. Platinum accents with satin finish on the Targa bar and this same colored font on the doors that say ‘Porsche Design’ are a beautiful contrast with the sleek black exterior. Additionally, an exclusive Porsche Design logo on the rear lid grille conveys to onlookers that this is no ordinary 911.
The thoughtful design touches continue on the inside. The equipment comes in Sport-Tek with special black leather features, and contrasting Slate Grey seams. Additionally, the seats’ center panels include a classic check pattern in black and Cool Grey. One clear piece of Porsche Design in this car comes on the dashboard - the brand’s Porsche Design Subsecond clock includes a small red second hand, again matching the original 1972 Chronograph 1.
Looking at the car’s powertrain and technology, the 911 features a 3.0 liter flat-six turbocharged engine making up to 473 horsepower, allowing it to achieve a 3.3 second 0-60 mph time and a top speed of 190 miles per hour. While the car may be design-focused, it is still a proper 911 and capable of impressive performance on and off the track. For Porsche Design enthusiasts who desire the ultimate 911 configuration, this is the car to get.
